| Over het wijnhuis | De familie Bemberg heeft z’n allerbeste single vineyards geselecteerd voor een bijzondere reeks wijnen onder de naam La Linterna. De geselecteerde wijngaarden liggen verspreid van het noorden tot het zuiden van de Andes. Elke wijn is een precieze vertaling van het microterroir van die plek. De wijnen kregen bij de eerste lancering direct al zeer hoge scores. |
| Wijngaard en regio | Afkomstig uit de wijngaard Finca El Tomillo, die op 1.210 meter boven zeeniveau ligt. Deze wijngaard ligt in Gualtallary. De bodem is alluviaal. De wijngaard is aangeplant in 2004. |
| Vinificatie | De vergisting van de Malbec vindt plaats in 225 l vaten van Frans eikenhout, waarbij tweederde is ontstemd en 10% in hele trossen wordt verwerkt. De Cabernet Sauvignon en Cabernet Franc vergisten in 600 liter vaten van eikenhout. De vergistingen zijn spontaan met gisten uit de wijngaard. Na de vergisting volgt een inweking van vijf weken. Daarna wordt de wijn geperst. De wijn rijpt daarna 18 maanden in nieuw Frans eikenhout. |

| Awards | "This has an expressive nose of currants, black fruit, mocha, mushrooms, bark, cocoa and dried herbs. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, tight-grained tannins framing an expansive core of wild fruit and herbs. Well structured, yet very fine and elegant, with fresh acidity and a long, savory finish. 60% malbec, 25% cabernet sauvignon, 15% cabernet franc. Drink after 2023." - James Suckling "The 2017 Pionero Finca El Tomillo Gualtallary comes from shallow soils and was produced with a similar blend as the 2018 I tasted next to it—55% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot—with a similar fermentation in barrel and 18 months élevage in new barriques. Furthermore, the wines have similar parameters, 14.5% alcohol and good freshness, but the feeling is different. It has a nose dominated by the Malbec but with some spiciness from the others, a kind of classical Bordeaux blend with an expressive Argentinean twist. The tannins are quite firm and noticeable, and the wine is powerful; it's going to need a little more time in bottle. 3,750 bottles were filled in November 2018." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "The 2017 Pionero is a blend of 55% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from Gualtallary, Uco Valley. Potent with reactive tannins and a refined, slightly compact feel, the structure is well judged, rooted in the Bordeaux varieties.
