Awards | "The 2016 Chateau Fourcas-Borie is a blend of 68% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot, matured for 12 months in 20% new oak and the remainder one year old. I found more precision and intensity on the Fourcas-Borie compared to Bruno's other Listrac, Ducluzeau, quite floral with cassis and blueberry aromas developing in the glass. The palate is sweet on the entry with noticeable new oak at the moment, though that prudent 20% is totally in sync with the fruit. This is very sleek, silky to the touch with a slight graininess developing on the finish. It has great potential, although it deserves several years in bottle." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "An bright array of wild red fruit on the nose, as well as cassis and tobacco, leading to the palate that has a fresh dark fruit core with the 15 per cent petit verdot adding grip at the punchy finish. Try from 2021." - James Suckling "68% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Petit Verdot. 20% new oak for 12 months. Deep cherry red. Lively cassis nose, open and vibrant and just a little bit leafy in a good way. Lots of fruit up front with a touch of chocolate on the finish. Not especially long but rounded and fruity. Tannins are still a little firm for drinking now but all in balance. (JH)" - Jancis Robinson "The 2016 Fourcas-Borie has a more floral bouquet than its stablemate Ducluzeau, presenting a mixture of red and black fruit tinged with peony and incense. The palate is underpinned by fine tannin and a beautiful bead of acidity. This feels linear and quite grippy in the mouth, and the graphite-tinged finish lingers nicely. Superb." - Vinous "Crushed cherry and red currant fruit is wrapped with light bramble and tobacco notes. A twinge of balsam lines the finish while this stays fresh. Drink now through 2027." - Wine Spectator "Bold black fruits give this wine great richness and density. It has plenty of power, with a balance between the tannins and ripe black-currant flavors. The juicy aftertaste comes from the unusually high 15% of Petit Verdot in the blend." - Wine Enthusiast "There are hopes that Fourcas-Borie will be in line for Cru Bourgeois Superieur or Exceptionnel status when the new ranking is revealed in February 2020, and certainly it shows an impressively cohesive, ambitious face of Listrac. This is full of flavour, elegance and soft power, with silky tannins and touches of dark chocolate. The acidity is pretty high, a mark of 2016. Tight right now, it has clear potential and should only need a few more years to open up. Drinking Window 2020 - 2034" - Decanter |
