Awards | “Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Moulin Saint-Georges has a medium to deep garnet-purple color, rolling effortlessly out of the glass with notes of black cherry compote, blueberry preserves and ripe plum, plus touches of pencil shavings and fallen leaves. The medium-bodied palate is coated with crunchy black fruits, supported by a racy line and just enough textural friction, finishing long and savory. It's delicious right now, but I suspect 5-7 years of cellaring is going to reveal a whole other pleasure level.” – Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate ”A tight and structured red with plum, mineral, cedar and hints of sweet tobacco. It’s medium to full-bodied with creamy tannins and a juicy finish. Drink after 2023.” – James Suckling ”80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Barrel sample. Black core. Dark-fruited with ripe cassis, spicy. Juicy and fresh on the palate, packed with fruit and nicely smooth tannins even though they are powerful. Juicier and fresher than the Ch Simard. Well balanced and so much fruit. Just a bit charry on the finish, a hint of burnt toast at the very end.” – Jancis Robinson ”From one of the estates owned by the Vauthier family of Château Ausone, this wine is rich, both in fruit and tannic structure. Ripeness and power are balanced by elegant fruits. Drink the wine from 2026.” – Wine Enthusiast ”The 2018 Moulin Saint-Georges has a broody, introspective bouquet, so I allowed it 90–120 minutes to open. It reveals enticing blackberry, seaweed and light graphite notes with aeration, perhaps a little more sophisticated than recent vintages of the Vauthier family’s estate. The immediate impression on the palate is the texture, which is satin-like and very harmonious. Veins of blue fruit infuse the black, and blood orange surfaces toward the finish, which is almost Burgundy in style. A wonderful Moulin Saint-Georges that will be difficult to resist.” – Vinous ”Just gorgeous, was brilliant en primeur and is brillant now. So much dark sappy fruit, tons of spice and rose petal with persistency, really needs some time to stretch out but everything is there already in place. It can't be classified because Fonbel is made in the same cellar so contravenes the rules, but no question that its quality deserves it. 3.4ph. Drinking Window 2026 – 2042.” – Decanter |
