Awards | "As readers may remember, the 2022 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is mainly Merlot (55.9%), with a large proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (35.4%) and a touch of Cabernet Franc (8.7%). Evoking aromas of cassis, mulberries, coniferous forest and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and round with a nicely balanced, fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins and an energetic, ethereal finish. The pH is 3.9." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Gorgeous sweet fruit of currants and berries with some graphite and dark mushrooms. Medium-bodied, this has firm and fine velvet tannins and a stone undertone with graphite. The second wine of La Mission. Give this three or four years to come around. Best after 2028." - James Suckling "55.9% Merlot, 35.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8.7% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample. Crimson hue, lighter at the rim. Open and expressive with leafy, dark-fruit notes to the fore. Lively and juicy but sweet. Dry finish. A grainy note to the tannins on the end. (JL)" - Jancis Robinson "The 2022 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut Brion is gorgeous. Silky, open-knit and inviting, it is an absolute delight. A wine of total refinement, La Chapelle is all class. Medium in body, with striking aromatics and a chiseled persistence, the 2022 is so expressive today. Dark fruit, leather, incense and licorice saturate the palate. What a great wine." - Vinous "Beautifully refined aromatics on the nose - clean and clear blackcurrant, cherry, floral notes and some soft dried herb accents. Succulent and really juicy, this burst with liveliness as well as giving a real bite to the palate with crushed stone edged tannins. Lots of minerality and liquorice spice that really carries the flavours from start to finish. Still feels a little shy and tense but there's wonderful precision to the red berry fruit with a menthol lift all the way through. Glossy and well made, will be good to drink in its youth giving plenty of berry fruit and salinity. Lots of charm here. The most ready to drink out of the range. 20% new oak." - Decanter |
