Awards | "The 2021 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers up aromas of dark berries, grilled plums, espresso roast, sweet soil tones and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate that's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, chalky tannins and a long, youthfully oak-inflected finish. Like its big sibling, it's closed with a natural cork." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "Lavender, orange peel and redcurrants with some flowers. Medium body. Fine tannins and a tangy finish. Citrusy at the end. One that will be nice to drink young." - James Suckling "80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. 16 hl/ha. Cask sample. Pure and fleshy with a tension running through the wine. Going through its prise de bois so rather hard and dry on the finish. Awkward but fresh and long. Should improve with élevage. (JL)" - Jancis Robinson "The 2021 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, hints of cedar and clove, and even a touch of pain d'épices. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, a fine bead of acidity, good weight and freshness and a suave and very harmonious finish. I have remarked on the melioration of Carillon in the last two years, and this continues that trend" - Vinous "This second-label wine is rich, packed with jammy Merlot and cedar-wood aromas. Its solid texture is full of aging potential. Juicy with black-currant fruits, the wine will be ready to drink from 2027." - Wine Enthusiast "Beautifully expressive aromatics, really jump from the glass, alive and nuanced, floral, fruity - rosehip, cranberry, cardamom, cinnamon. Supple and lithe, this has movement to it which is so nice. Not super tense and straight, not dense and chewy, somewhere in-between with bright, mouth-watering acidity that lifts the expression. Hints of chalky minerality on the finish brings it back to focus with a moreish aspect. Tannins are great, barely noticeable but still giving the frame and support to the structure. Well delivered. Gorgeous purity, balance and harmonious, really lovely drinking here." - Decanter |
