| Over het wijnhuis | Hoewel Muscadet een klassieke wijnregio in de Franse Loire is met veel historie, worden er tegenwoordig juist heel vooruitstrevende wijnen gemaakt. De regio is een goudmijn voor kwaliteitswijnen met een enorme zuiverheid en terroirreflecties met zeer betaalbare prijzen. Francois Lieubeau maakt een modern en indrukwekkend scala Muscadets met de voor de streek zo typerende lange 'sur lie'-rijping. De wijnen van Lieubeau zijn gastronomisch heel breed inzetbaar. |
| Wijngaard en regio | Afkomstig van geselecteerde wijngaarden in de cru Clisson die naast het fotogenieke dorp Clisson ligt. De wijngaard ligt op een breuklijn van graniet, waar het wortelsysteem diep de grond in gaat. De wijnstokken zijn 50 jaar oud. De cru Clisson is te karakteriseren om zijn kracht en gulheid. |
| Vinificatie | Eerst vindt er een korte schilweking plaats. Daarna wordt het sap vergist op een lage temperatuur in RVS tanks. De wijn rijpt verder op de gistcellen ('sur lie') gedurende 24 maanden in ondergrondse vaten. Hierin wordt regelmatig 'batonnage' toegepast, dit is het rond husselen van de gist in het vat. Beide technieken worden gebruikt om de wijn ronder en complexer van smaak te maken. |

| Awards | "Full bottle 1,520 g. Certified organic (AB, Ecocert). From 50-year-old vines growing on Clisson granite. Hand-picked. Spontaneous fermentation. Two years on lees. I'd love to see Lieubeau reduce the weight of these bottles. Cru wines do not deserve or need heavy bottles. But the wine is undeniably magnificent. It does need time to open in the glass and must not be served cold (which accentuates the citrus at the cost of complexity). The weight of smoky fruit, golden and ripe-mango silky, seems to hold the wine like the centre of a planetary orbit. And then the slow spin of fennel and rosemary herbs. Mid palate, there's a rich savouriness that takes me to warm focaccia glistening with peppery green olive oil and roasted rosemary. Then sweet clementine acidity and a wraith of smoke on the long, long end. That texture is just so sensuous. Stunning.
