Awards | "The Mazzei 2020 Concerto di Fonterutoli is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon from a cool vineyard site located at 350 meters in elevation. It is surrounded by thick forests on three sides. The role of the forest especially in the hills of Chianti is becoming ever more appreciated as we face hot summers and climate change. This wine remains focused and tight with wild berry, blackcurrant, grilled herb, spice and dark mineral tones. To the palate, there is plenty of sweet fruit followed by nicely integrated, dry tannins." - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate "An extremely aromatic red with currants, flowers and spices, following through to a full-bodied yet so crunchy and juicy palate with crushed blackberries and raspberries. Citrusy acidity. Bright and agile.' - James Suckling "Bright transparent crimson. Not much nose yet. Lots of ripeness and a happy blend in which the Sangiovese tames and adds zest to the Cabernet. But nice sweetness too. Dry (not drying) finish. This should develop well." - Jancis Robinson "The 2020 Concerto di Fonterutoli is bright and punchy, with terrific freshness and tons of nuance. Plum, pomegranate, spice, new leather and blood orange are front and center. The 2020 is a gorgeous wine that captures the essence of the house style beautifully. Today, the purity of the fruit really jumps out of the glass. Superb." - Vinous "This rich yet taut red is marked by a beam of black cherry and black currant fruit, with oak spice, earth and wild Mediterranean herb accents. Compact, dusty finish. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2025 through 2038." - Wine Spectator "The nose balances the peppery, sanguine smokiness of grilled meat with a succulent swirl of black cherries and chocolate. On the palate, that balance continues, and is spotlighted by a strong undertow of spice and salt, while polished tannins and integrated acid create cohesion." - Wine Enthusiast "This Toscana IGT from Chianti Classico stalwart Fonterutoli is a blend of 80% tonneaux-aged Sangiovese and 20% barrique-aged Cabernet Sauvignon, both matured for 18 months. Tobacco and cedar-laced black fruit aromas lead to a bright and concentrated palate full of focused red and black fruits, showing great balance and structure for long ageing. A finish of herbal bitters and pomegranate lends depth and interest to this youthful, value-for-money red." - Decanter |
