| Over het wijnhuis | Saint Clair is vernoemd naar James Sinclair, die verantwoordelijk was voor de eerste nederzettingen in Blenheim, Nieuw-Zeeland, de thuishaven van het wijnhuis op het Zuidereiland. Opgericht in 1978 behoort het familiebedrijf tot de pioniers op het gebied van wijnbouw in Marlborough. Vandaar dat de link met pionier James Sinclair al snel werd gelegd. Saint Clair bezit ruim 270 hectare wijngaarden in Marlborough op het Zuidereiland, en in Hawke’s Bay op het Noordereiland. |
| Wijngaard en regio | Afkomstig van wijngaarden in het zuiden van de Wairau Valley, Nieuw-Zeeland. De wijngaarden liggen dichtbij de kust, wat veel verkoeling geeft. Het verschil in temperatuur tussen dag en nacht is groot. Hierdoor worden de druiven langzaam rijp, wat de smaakconcentratie vergroot. |
| Vinificatie | Na de oogst worden de druiven geperst, waarbij contact met de schilletjes zoveel mogelijk wordt vermeden. Het sap wordt koud vergist in RVS-tanks om maximale frisheid te behouden. |

| Awards | "Sliced lemons and green apples with some grass on both the nose and palate. It’s medium-bodied, crisp and focused. Lighter than past vintages but very nice." - James Suckling "Marlborough has built its reputation on the shoulders of wines like these, and it stakes its success to them now. Interestingly, the region is able to produce high-quality wines at high yields (15 tonnes per hectare, as an example), which certainly explains how the regional volume of wine is achieved. Gladly, as a consumer, high yields don't seem to mean low quality in this case, meaning there's lots of it, and it's good. On the nose, this 2022 Sauvignon Blanc Wairau Reserve leads with overt thiols—passionfruit, green bean, sweet pea florals, green apples and coriander. The fruit is from Dillon's Point (in the lower Wairau), and it essentially expounds a quintessential Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and does what it says it will do—you've gotta love that. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap." - 93 punten, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate over de 2022-vintage "Mango, bloemig, paprika, gras, peper, elegant. Saint Clair has got winning gold medals for Sauv Blanc down to a fine art, and you can see why here. It has a wonderful nose of leafy key lime pie with touches of refreshing mint. It's big and bold on the palate but with great balance and restraint, showing bags of juicy citrus zestiness.
