| Over het wijnhuis | Aldo Conterno was één van de twee zoons van ‘Barolokoning’ Giacomo Conterno. Aldo en broer Giovanni zijn allebei in de voetsporen van hun vader getreden, al volgden ze ieder hun eigen weg. Waar Giovanni de meer traditionele ideeën van zijn vader volgde, had Aldo andere ideeën over hoe ultieme Barolo zou moeten smaken, onder meer door zijn tijd in Californië. Al was Aldo zeker geen modernist pur sang. Het wijnhuis heeft drie wijngaarden in de cru Bussia, alle drie op kalkbodems: de wijngaarden Colonnello, Cicala en Romirasco. Het huis ziet de Romirasco-wijngaard als de beste. 70% van de Nebbiolo-druiven in de topcuvée Granbussia Riserva zijn afkomstig van deze wijngaard. Met Granbussia creëerde Aldo Conterno een iconische Barolo en die creatie leeft tegenwoordig voort in het werk van zijn kinderen Giacomo, Stefano en Franco, die het wijnhuis nu runnen. |
| Wijngaard en regio | De druiven komen uit de wijngaard Colonnello in de cru Bussia in de comune (gemeente) Monforte d’Alba in Barolo. De wijngaarden zijn 40-45 jaar oud en worden soms herplant om de kwaliteit te waarborgen. amfitheatervorm vol op het zuidwesten, op 360 meter op het hoogste deel. De bodem heeft een Sant’Agata-mergel-samenstelling, op deze specifieke plek met meer zand. |
| Vinificatie | De druiven vergisten in RVS tanks gedurende 30 dagen, met schilcontact. De wijn rijpt daarna 29 maanden in houten vaten van Slavonisch eiken van 25 hectoliter. |

| Awards | "A restrained and elegant wine with aromas of citrus, leaves, dried cherries, orange peel and an enticing whiff of peppermint. The palate is graceful despite a full body, tense acidity and firm, muscular yet velvety tannins, but everything is well packed, poised and balanced. Long, lavish and bracing aftertaste. Try from 2027." - James Suckling "The estate’s first single-vineyard Barolo was introduced in 1970 – the same year that Aldo Conterno struck out on his own. It hails from a 1ha site with predominantly sandy soil, rich in magnesium and manganese. Floral top notes exhibit Nebbiolo’s classic rose scent, nuanced by brushwood, toasted hazelnut and earthy roots. The palate rings out with clarity and precision. Raspberry and rhubarb underlie the silky, finessed tannins. A warning though: there are masses of them! A truffle innuendo haunts the finish. This is a wine to forget about for a few years." - Decanter "Monforte d’Alba. Just mid ruby. Beautiful, lifted crushed raspberry with a saline note. Transparent, super-elegant and but still extremely youthful and with jewel-like acidity and long, layered sandy tannins that go on and on. Still embryonic and austere but with real energy. Black cherry, plum, mocha, spice, leather, gravel and a kiss of French oak add to an impression of gravitas. The 2019 possesses a deep core of fruit and the structure to match. Today, it is a bit imposing. A few years in bottle should do the trick." - 92 punten, Vinous over de 2019-vintage "The Poderi Aldo Conterno 2017 Barolo Bussia Colonnello shows good focus, structure and a sharper character that is often the distinguishing factor in this wine. The bouquet is redolent of dark fruit and plum, but it also shows a solid framing of iron ore and dark stony mineral. These give the wine greater lift and contoured edges.
