Druivenras Barbera
Serveertemperatuur 16-18 °C

Awards "This is a no-nonsense wine loaded with complexity and depth, but in its core is pure joy. Aromas of sun-warmed crushed raspberries and black cherries mingle with fresh thyme, while clove, anise and cinnamon stick lift the nose. The well-structured palate is a dance between fresh and preserved wild berries, guided by lively acidity. Savory spice, herbs and white pepper linger on the finish, revealing a wine that's serious, but just wants to have fun. Drink now–2035" - Wine Enthusiast

"A complex, beguiling barbera with layered aromas of licorice, sweet violets, earth, leather, restrained black cherries and plums. Medium- to full-bodied with flavors of oak bark and graphite, showing smoky complexity, velvety tannins and zesty yet integrated acidity. Long, chocolaty and warming finish." - James Suckling

"Well-marked by new oak, whose elements of sweet spices embrace the plum, blackberry and fruitcake flavors. Vibrant and silky, this firms up, offering a line of dense tannins on the long finish. Walks the line between power and elegance. Drink now through 2030." - Wine Spectator

"One of the bottles that made the history of Italian wine, the Braida 2020 Barbera d'Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone shows a dark and savory side with ripe cherry, baked plum, spice, tarry smoke and campfire ember. With time, those aromas soften and reorganize to resemble espresso bean or baking chocolate. There is a lot of concentration and fruit weight here, and you need that texture to offset the very high 16.5% alcohol content." - 93 punten, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate over de 2020-vintage

"The 2019 Barbera d’Asti Bricco dell'Uccellone is one of the best versions of this wine I can remember tasting. Rich and full-bodied to the core, with stunning depth, the 2019 offers up a beguiling range of black fruit, mocha, chocolate, grilled herbs, lavender and incense. There's still plenty of concentration and oak to support it, but without the excesses of some recent years. it has been a while since I have been able to say a Braida wine is exciting, but the 2019 certainly is!" - 95 punten, Vinous over de 2019-vintage

"Zeer rijp, pruimen, koffie, peperkoek, salie. Intens, goede zuren, rijpe tannine, indrukwekkend." - 16,5/20, Perswijn over de 2016-vintage

"Impenetrable, almost black ruby. Very concentrated and with huge depth of black cherry and blackberry, but at the same time surprisingly contained. Savoury spice hints from oak and with a black-pepper prickle. Supple and with impressive depth on the palate but not overtly sweet or out of control in spite of the 16% (!) alcohol. Great balance but definitely a heady drink. I still expect this to age well although this is ready now. Velvety tannins. (WS)" - 17/20, Jancis Robinson over de 2017-vintage

"Braida’s Bricco dell’Uccellone is iconic because, although it was possibly not the very first Barbera to age in barrique, it was the one that created the genre that launched humble Barbera into the realms of the super-premium in the early 1980s. It also owed a lot in the past to the charismatic, larger-than-life figure of its creator Giacomo Bologna and to the involvement of the legendary critic and philosopher of Italian wine, Luigi ‘Gino’ Veronelli, in the concept of the project. Their genial intuition that new oak would harmonise with Barbera to turn the variety into a wine of silky smooth elegance, marked a new epoch for Italian wine. Bologna’s son and daughter continue production today from the same south-facing single-vineyard plot at Rocchetta Tanaro in Asti. The label, in itself an icon, remains unchanged from the original. An explosion of black cherry, sandalwood and sweet spices on the nose. Exuberant fruit reinforced by steely acidity on the palate, finely woven oak tannins and a long finish, which is pure wild berries and violets." - 95 punten, Decanter over de 2015-vintage
